Anime began early in the 20th century, when Japanese film makers experimented with animation techniques that were being used in other countries. The oldest known form of Anime is in 1907. It is a clip of a sailor boy that lasted only 3 minutes.

Japanese animators were also heavily influenced by the success the Disney studios were having in the 1930's with full length animated film lise Snow White and the Sever Dwarves. The simplified many Disney animation techniques in order to reduce costs of production. Although this was intended as a temporary fix to allow them to turn out animation quickly with an inexperienced staff, it quickly became a hallmark look of Japanese animation and Anime in particular.
